DrayTek IPv6 solution will help you transit your business or home network from IPv4 to IPv6, in the most cost-effective and secure way. This blog describes the common inter-communication mechanisms employed by DrayTek.
1. Dual Stack to handle both IPv4 and IPv6 networks
DrayTek provides an additional memory stack to handle the IPv6 related traffic and services. This dual stack functionality enables DrayTek’s routers to handle both IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time.
The new Online Status page shows both the IPv4 and IPv6 network status.

2. Tunnel mode to get IPv6 addresses
For cases where the ISP does not support IPv6 services, DrayTek routers allow a Tunnel mode (TSPC or AICCU) to be used to access hosts with IPv6 addresses, allowing existing IPv4 network devices to communicate with the IPv6 ones.
The IPv6 packets will be encapsulated with the IPv4 header, allowing the packets to be handled by IPv4 routers. Once the packets reach the border devices between IPv4 and IPv6, the IPv4 header will be removed, and the remaining IPv6 packets will be forwarded to the destinations in the IPv6 network.
The diagram below shows the option for TSPC or AICCU Tunnel mode.

3. Translation
For communication among the IPv4 networks, the Translation feature allows IPv4 addresses to be translated and passed through IPv6 networks.
Other Features
Advanced firewall filter to prevent unauthorized access from WAN
The additional addresses available in the IPv6 networks do mean that network accesses can be more easily breached. The new DrayTek routers with IPv6 functionality cater for extra blocking of unauthorized access from the IPv6 network and the Internet, and pass only traffic related to addresses listed in the firewall’s filters.

Quality of Service for application prioritization
Similar to the QoS functionality for IPv4, the QoS for IPv6 allows you to define the priority and reserve bandwidth for essential applications – over the IPv6 networks.
The diagram describes the QoS setting for the Web server in the IPv6 environment.
